Legal / Collections Secretary LEGN1005


A law firm based in Woodmead is looking for a collections secretary or paralegal to join their firm.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate must meet and exceed the following requirements:
Secretarial Certificate or Diploma or a Para Legal Diploma
At least 5 years working experience at a law firm
Proven track record as a senior legal secretary and typist
Dictaphone typing, copy typing
Electronic and manual filing
Familiarity with legal terminology
Excellent secretarial and administrative skills
Advanced typing skills (dictaphone, copy-typing and self-initiated typing);
Minimum typing speed of 75 wpm;
Advanced PC literacy on all MS Word applications (including Windows, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel);
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language;
Diligent and hard worker;
Ability to prioritise and co-ordinate work.

Role Description

Job Function
Check the data captured for accuracy;
Check and verify locus standi of the plaintiff and the defendant;
Check jurisdiction in the matters;
Instruct sheriffs, Couriers and correspondents
Be responsible for the running of the procedural aspects of a matter once the summons has been served.
Processing and managing incoming and outgoing post, telephone calls, e-mails and correspondence;
Able to follow already established in-house work procedures and to identify and implement new procedures to improve efficiencies;
Diary management, filing, screening calls;
Good legal knowledge and understanding of legal terminology an advantage
Typing and formatting of documents
Collating and updating legal matters status report
Electronic database manipulation.
